Inka Kennepohl is an emerging visual artist from the prairies of Canada, currently based in Montreal/Tiohtià:ke. Their practice is in oil painting, textile arts, poetry, and ceramics. Inka enjoys making work that is interdisciplinary and political, often concerning specific historical scenes and sociological conversations. The body, the earth, and human labour are the foci around which Inka’s work orbits. Inka examines their connection to land in their work, conscious of living and working in the colonial project of Canada within the Imperialist core.
As such, their work is grounded in the natural and cultural geography of their surroundings.
In their painted portraits, they situate human figures as features of natural landscapes, exploring how human connections, activities, work, rest, and material culture emerge from the natural world.
Inka recently wrapped their first solo show of paintings and ceramics at Cafe Bloom in Montreal. They just completed their BFA at Concordia in the Studio Arts program.
